Type Locality and Naming

Xueshan range, north Taiwan. The type section is located at Sule Village, Taoyuan County, Taiwan Province. It was named by He C in 1986.


Lithology and Thickness

The uppermost part of Neogene strata in Xueshan Mountain. It is characterized by the slate, shale, sandstone and interbeds of sandstone and shale, with coal seam. The thickness is more than 1000 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is conformable in contact to underlying Aodi Fm.

Upper contact

Regional extent

The formation is distributed in Sanguang-Xiuluan of upstream of Touqianxi River and Dahanxi River in Taoyuan County.

Fossils

Helicosphaera ampliaperta, Sphenolithus heteromorphus, Discoaster deflandrei, Coccolithus miopelagicus, Cyclicargolithus floridanus, Globorotalia siakensis, Globigerina venezuelana, Praeorbulina circularis, Karreriella shangtaoensis, Gaudryina pseudohayasakai.


Age 

Foraminifera fossils correlative to N7-N9 zone. Calcareous nannofossils correlative to NN4-NN5 zone are yielded. Fossil assemblages are Burdigalian-Langhian
